Bismillah. Assalammualaikum.
Have you come across name like Steve Job throughout your life? I bet that you must heard his name. Steve Job has a very unique way in inspiring mankind to think the importance of saying NO! NO for a reason to focus has always misdirected people. Steve’ said that people think focus means saying yes to be thing you have got to focus on but that is not what it means at all. It means saying NO to the hundred other good ideas that there are and pick one better idea carefully. This is what Steve’s called as FOCUS!
For the second post for this blog, I would like to write about my experience during the National Sport Psychology Workshop 2014 that was held at University Malaya two weeks ago. The topic for the workshop was “Mental Skills for Achieving Optimum Experience”. Furthermore, my theme for this second post will be related to Principles of Goal Setting in Sport. Let’s get start!
The speaker on the 2nd session, Dato’ Zaiton Othman mentioned 1 acronym word which is:
S specific
M measurable
A agreed
R realistic
T time-bound
E ethical
R recorded
Wow! Again new knowledge that I learnt on that day. The speaker specifically explained the function and role of SMARTER in a sport world setting. However, I am more attracted to the letter of R = Recorded. I do some self-talk about the importance of that R letter repeatedly. Moreover, I came to a conclusion that record and recording is very crucial not just for athletes and sports man, but also for us a student or learner. We have to record every single thing that happen in our life. For a runner, they should record how much time they have completed the run and how many seconds that it takes to complete a round. Same goes to a tennis player. They should record how many strike that they have made in one training session. Similar to us as a student. We do come to class every day without missed but end of the semester, we realized no single notes that we had written. After that, we start asking for other students’ notes who hardly struggled writing notes with passion. Are we that lazy? Think!
Next, the speaker also mentioned about focus and re-focus. This part of this session was very intriguing because we were asked to complete a grid concentration test. For the first round, I managed to identify the first 10 numbers within 15 seconds. I am so proud of myself. LOL. Then we did the second round and what happen to myself on that time was I lost focus and I can just identify 6 numbers within 15 seconds. Then I realized something. Becoming a sports man or normal people, we shall never lose focus. This can let us fall down easily and get beaten by others.
Lastly, two things that I learnt from this workshop are the role of RECORD and never lose FOCUS in life.
“We record our target, we focus to get!”
